As a kind of near net forming technology for manufacturing high quality precision parts, MIM has incomparable advantages compared with conventional powder metallurgy and machining methods. MIM is capable of manufacturing many parts with complex shape characteristics, such as various external grooves, external threads, tapered surfaces, cross-pass holes, blind holes, concave tables and key pins, stiffened plates, surface knurls, etc., which cannot be obtained by conventional PM methods. Because the parts made through MIM require little machining, reducing the consumption of materials, MIM is more economical than machining method when number of complex shape parts required to be produced is higher than a certain value.
