By optimizing the sintering procedure, the sintered density of water-atomized 316 stainless steel can reach 7.66g/cm3, the mechanical properties can all reach and some even better than the American MPUF 35 Standard. The 17-4PH stainless steel has a sintering density of 7.59 g/cm3 and good multiple mechanical properties.

 Shrinkage during de-binding and sintering of stainless steel were investigated. Shrinkage ratios in the longitude, width and thickness directions were measured and calculated under the circumstances of different powder loading, sintering temperature and sintering atmosphere. It can be concluded that non-uniform shrinkage occurs in the sintering of 316L stainless steel while uniform shrinkage takes place in the sintering of 17-4PH. Immersing, Feroxyl Method and Anodic Polarization Measurement were used respectively to evaluate the corrosion resistance of sintered gas atomized. 

Water atomized 316L and 17-4PH stainless steel. It is shown that sintering parameters like sintering atmosphere and sintering temperature all affect corrosion resistance of the stainless steels. Generally, water atomized stainless steel has the best corrosion resistance property, while the gas atomized rank the second and 17-4PH stainless steel has the lowest corrosion resistance property. The corrosion resistance of MIM stainless steel is higher than that of the Press/sintering stainless steel.
