Metal injection Molding (MIM) is a kind of near-net environmental protection forming process, which uses metal powder (such as SUS316L,P.A.N.A.C.E.A) as raw material and adopts "injection+sintering" process, to produce complex parts at low cost.

 

Process of producing multi-lens bracket : feedstock preparation, injection, debinding and sintering, secondary process, CNC, demagnetization, PVD, inspection, packaging and so on. Metal injection molding process is the core process.

 

 

Feedstock preparation:

 

Mixing metal powder and plastic binder firstly, then granulate it through extrusion equipment to get feedstock. As the core part of feedstock, plastic binder affects feedstock’s uniformity and formability directly. And then affect the follow-up process and performance of final product.

 

Injection process:

 

Heating the material to its melting temperature, injection the solution to cavity through increasing pressure, after cool down in cavity, product shape finished.

 

Debinding process:

 

The binder is mainly composed of POM (polyformaldehyde), and a small amount of HDPE (high density polyethylene), EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) and PW (paraffin) and so on.

 

Debinding refers to remove the polyformaldehyde (or paraffin) from green parts to prevent the binder from gasification during sintering to cause quality problems like bubbling and boring. It is a preparation for the sintering process.

 

Sintering process:

 

Sintering is the last step in metal injection molding MIM process. It eliminates pores between powder particles in order to achieve full density or near-complete densification of MIM products, In design stage, it is necessary to take deformation and dimensional accuracy on full consideration.

 

Another advantage of multi-camera bracket choosing metal injection molding MIM process is that it can mass producing with high efficiency.

 

Huawei P20/Pro was popular when it was launched, sales exceeded 6 million in three months, and MIM parts can be offered 500000 units per day in short term, which is unable to be achieved by other processing. Huawei estimate sales Mate 20 series 20 million units, which will be a boon for metal injection molding industry.
