1.Mechanical polishing

Its advantage is good flatness and high brightness. The defects are labor intensity, severe pollution, and complicated parts cannot be processed, and glossy can’t be consistent, gloss hold time is not long, stifling and rusting. Relatively suitable for simple parts, medium or small size products.

Mechanical polishing is a method of polishing smooth surface by cutting and plastic deformation of material surface, and generally uses a stone strip, a wool wheel, a sandpaper, etc., and is mainly operated by hand. Special parts such as external rotation, use turntables and other auxiliary tools, high quality appearance can be taken by ultra-precision polishing. Super fine grinding and polishing is to adopt special grinding tools, processing surface at high speed rotation. The surface roughness of Ra0.008 m can be achieved with this technique, which is the highest among all polishing methods. This method is often used in optical lens moulds. 

2. Chemical polishing

Its advantages are less investment in processing equipment, large miscellaneous pieces can be thrown, fast speed, high efficiency, good corrosion resistance. Its defect is poor brightness, gas overflow, ventilation equipment, heating difficult. Suitable for processing small quantities miscellaneous parts and small parts of brightness requirements is not high. Chemical polishing is to let the convex appearance in chemical medium dissolve prior to concave appearance, so as to get a smooth surface. The important advantage of this method is no complex equipment, can polish complex shape, can polish many workpieces at the same time, high efficiency. The key problem of chemical polishing is the preparation of polishing fluid. The surface roughness obtained by chemical polishing is generally 10 m 

3. Ultrasonic polishing

The part is placed in abrasive suspension and together with ultrasonic field, relying on ultrasonic vibration to make abrasive surface grinding and polishing. Ultrasonic machining has a small macroscopic force and does not cause deformation, but tooling is difficult to manufacture and install.

Ultrasonic machining can be combined with chemical or electrochemical methods. On the base of solution corrosion and electrolysis, ultrasonic vibration solution is applied to make the workpiece appearance dissolute. Ultrasonic cavitation in the liquid can also inhibit the corrosion process, conducive to the appearance of bright.

 4. Magnetic grinding polishing

Magnetic grinding is the use of magnetic abrasive in magnetic field under the action of abrasive brush, grinding the workpiece, this processing has high efficiency, good quality, easy to control processing conditions, good working conditions. At present, the main polishing methods for metal injection molding stainless steel parts are magnetic grinding and mechanical polishing. 

At present, the most widely used polishing methods for parts made by metal injection molding are magnetic grinding and mechanical polishing.
