In recent years, the rise of outdoor sports, sports smart watch is also more and more popular. Major smart watch manufacturers not only innovate on the sports function, but also have many attempts on the material of watches. Titanium and titanium alloys are favored by the smart watch industry for their light weight, high strength, corrosion resistance, allergy resistance and beautiful appearance.


Metal injection molding Titanium began in 1988 and was applied in the mid-1990s. At present, pure titanium powder, ti-6al-4v, TiAl, ti-mo-al and other ti-based powders have been successfully manufactured by metal injection molding process. Japanese company have applied titanium metal injection molding in luxury goods such as golf ball head, automatic automobile, medical machinery, dental implants and watch case, strap and buckle, etc in Japan. Titanium MIM molding has the characteristics of easy control of alloy composition, high utilization rate of raw materials, simple production process and high production efficiency.


There are still many problems in the development of titanium and titanium alloy injection molding, mainly including:

1. The price of low-oxygen spherical titanium powder is high, and oxygen pollution makes nanoscale titanium powder difficult to obtain;

2. Selection and removal process of binder, EBS wax is the most practical one at present, but it needs to be removed in vacuum or argon environment, which is of high cost;

3. Remove clearance element.


The preparation of spherical titanium powder with low oxygen and low cost is the main development direction of titanium and titanium alloy powder. Among them, titanium powder prepared by aerosol technology has fine particle size, high sphericity, low oxygen content, large scale production capacity and low cost, which is the main method to produce high performance spherical titanium and alloy powder at present. At the same time, it is the key to prepare low cost and high performance titanium alloy injection molding parts to develop new and efficient binder system, optimize mixing, degreasing, sintering process and injection parameters.
