Dielectric filter has the characteristics of high permittivity, low loss, small size and good thermal drift resistance. Electromagnetic resonance in ceramic filter occurs in ceramic dielectric material which reduces the volume and weight of whole filter. Meanwhile, ceramic material has the characteristics of high Q medium, low insertion loss, wider band width that can be covered, and high power. Why ceramics and not metals? Three things are important:

Firstly, the dielectric filter has high permittivity, low loss, small size and large power for large-scale integration. Small size and convenient installation;

Secondly: good reliability. Ceramic are not sensitive to changes in temperature, which is more important outdoors, unlike metal or plastic that change greatly at high and low temperatures. Meanwhile, ceramic has good corrosion resistance.

Thirdly: low cost. Cost of raw materials is low. Main components in ceramic materials are: titanium, magnesium, calcium, which are not expensive, especially those manufacturers who have the ability to produce by themselves, price can be greatly reduced. Main materials of ceramic powder injection molding dielectric filter are: magnesium hydroxide, magnesium titanate, calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide, barium carbonate, samarium oxide, zinc oxide, strontium carbonate, aluminum oxide, lanthanum oxide, etc.

At present, dielectric filter use powder injection molding process and some adopts dry pressing process. Dielectric filter by powder injection molding has high dimensional accuracy and reduce machining greatly. As material is ceramic powder, and no need a large number of CNC, therefore, when the yield of dielectric filter increases, its overall cost can be greatly reduced compared with that of metal filter. With sufficient competition and sufficient capacity, filter price will be reduced by 70% from current level.

Current difficulties of ceramic dielectric filter: 

Raw material synthesis is one of the key factors to determine filter performance. At the same time, we should try our best to produce ceramics with few impurities, few defects and even grain distribution for filter production. Performance of ceramic dielectric filter is determined by powder formula and production process. 

Ceramic dielectric filter process includes powder manufacturing, molding, sintering, polishing and debugging, etc. Due to the irreversibility of polishing process, debugging is the key to improve ceramic productivity. In addition, metallization automation is also the technical difficulty.
